Fedor Emelianenko: The Dynasty And Reign Of “The Last Emperor”
Fedor Emelianenko ended his MMA career with the same stoic look that many of us have become accustomed to over the years. His face was reddened as blood dripped off his lip onto the canvas as many of MMA’s legends came inside the ring to bid “The Last Emperor” goodbye. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Royce Gracie, Josh Barnett, Renzo Gracie, Randy Couture, and Matt Hughes all entered the ring at Bellator 290 to share Emelianenko’s last moments inside the cage. It was a touching moment for hardcore MMA fans to see one of the sport’s first legends get a worthy sendoff.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get the happy ending we were looking for as it took Ryan Bader only two and a half minutes to force referee Herb Dean to step in and save Fedor as he unleashed a vicious ground-and-pound.
That’s just how things go in mixed martial arts. Legends rarely get a happy ending. Only a few like Georges St-Pierre have been able to walk off into the sunset on their terms. Every legend who stepped into the cage to send Emelianenko off was all too familiar with the emotions that must have been going on inside Fedor despite his outward stoic appearance.
Rampage lost three of his last four fights before announcing his retirement. Ironically, his last loss was to Fedor. Matt Hughes lost his last two fights via knockouts, while Randy Couture was knocked out by Lyoto Machida in his last outing.
Fedor’s decision to fight one more time at the age of 46, almost two years since his last fight will be questioned for quite some time. Many fans would have been happy with a simple ceremony honoring one of MMA’s greatest fighters, with legends of the sport coming inside the cage to shake his hand, but the possibility of retiring with Bellator’s heavyweight title was probably too tempting. It wasn’t the ending many fans wanted, but Fedor’s legacy will not be affected by it. He can leave the sport with his head held high, knowing he won four of his last six fights while fighting way past his prime.

PFL was like “we need a hook for this weekend’s PPV and we can’t find anyone for Ngannou to fight.” Props to whoever wins, that’s a guaranteed $2 million check waiting for them.

Ryan Bader Reveals he Makes '10 Times more Money' in Bellator than What he Made in the UFC
Ryan Bader is satisfied with his pay at Bellator!
Ryan Bader received ‘significantly more’ for his Fedor Emelianenko win at Bellator 290, according to his recent statement. Bader faced off and won over Emelianenko at the Bellator 290 event at the beginning of this month. A recent report revealed how much each fighter who participated in the Bellator 290 fight card made in disclosed pay. According to the report, Bader made about $150,000 for his…

PFL Presents Francis Ngannou vs Renan Ferreria On October 19th
youtube
So going as far back as March of 2024, Ngannou had stated that he would compete again in MMA, and the PFL, in my opinion have put together a heavyweight fight worthy of looking forward to.
There's a lot at stake here.
Francis Ngannou's foray into boxing was both positive and negative, where he looked very impressive against Tyson Fury and then was blown out of the water by Anthony Joshua 4 months later.
Then you have to factor the financial investment that the PFL have made in Francis, and it would look kind of crazy if the uncrowned UFC champion were to get dominated by a no name Brazilian who isn't even on the UFC's radar.
Then there's Renan Ferreira and the threat that he poses, and he is a guy that has some clout.
With wins over Ryan Bader and Fabricio Werdum (though later overturned to a no contest), means that Ferreira is the PFL's standout heavyweight, and unlike Ngannou has been very active over the last 2 years.
youtube
Ngannou's last MMA bout took place all the way back in January of 2022, against Cyril Gane, and Ferreira is a very different opponent to Gane.
Firstly, is Renan Ferreira's jiu-jitsu background, which he used to great effect in his 2023 bout with Fabricio Werdum, as Werdum was the one to initiate the takedown, which ended really badly for him.
Renan Ferreira is 6 foot 8. A reach advantage he has used to devastating effect against the other PFL heavyweights like Ryan Bader and Denis Goltsov.
When range meets knockout power and aggression, you get Renan Ferreira.
Whatever Ngannou's game plan is, it will surely begin with a strong boxing base, and for as good as Renan's previous opponents were, none of them had anything close to Francis' power.
While Ngannou should avoid head hunting, finding his range with boxing will force Renan into a backwards motion and relying on counter punching and leg kicks.
You can feel that it's a reach, but Renan Ferreira has more than a good chance to put himself on the world stage by winning this and he should not be a heavy underdog by anyone's odds.
A novelty fight, and the PFL does deserve some respect for having an opponent like Ferreira and it should be a barn burner, given the novelty of a fight this big being hosted somewhere other than the UFC.
